Hustle up the time like loose clippings in a pile
or those shiny red berries on the branch.
Pick what you can from what still shines in the pan.
A shake to the Right, a shake to the Left.
Stay where you are and pray or just sing in quiet tones
to the Agreed Upon Ghosts.
And may your TV never be on the blink.
Leave behind what was not gotten to.
Let the steaming cup steep.
Swear to better days before you fall to sleep.
When you awake watch the birds on the wire and listen.
They will translate those long distance messages and you will know once and for all
what you’ve suspected all along.
Your fears are everyone’s fears and so now no one should feel afraid.
Best reception and good luck.
For those who tend to stay put.
May your TV never be on the blink
